Put Your Dream To The Test By John Maxwell

Dreams seem to be a dime-a-dozen these days.  We are all told that we can become anything we desire ourselves to be, anything we put our minds to.  However, we quickly become aware that if a dream is to be had, it take an immense amount of hard work, energy, clarity, and teamwork to accomplish it.

John Maxwell’s new book, Put Your Dream to the Test, will give legs to your dream.  Through simply examining ten questions, this book takes you from aimless dreaming to a laser-beam focus on achieving your dream.  This book gives brings convergence and motivation through ten questions regarding ownership and strategy, tenacity and significance, Maxwell allows us the chance to change dreams into reality.

This book spoke volumes to me.  For a long time, I have been considering certain larger-than-life steps.  I took a lot of time with this book, examining each question in detail.  At the end, I found myself more focused on accomplishing these things.  Though the action stage was far off, the preparation stage had a drastically more focused strategy to it.  This book deserves your reading, whether you are at ready to take new steps or not.  Even if you are not looking for a change, this book can bring a lot of new focus.  I highly recommend you read it today!

A small town is treated to the gift of perspective in this well-told, engaging story.  The author himself walks us through this amazing true story of new outlook on life by a man named Jones.  We begin with the author himself meeting Jones under a dock, and having his world revolutionized.  The town itself then feels Jones’ warm compassion and love extended.  This well-aged man meets various people, in various walks of life, struggling with major barriers in their time.  Whether it is the overworked businessman or the under-loved couple, the elderly grandmother or employees at the country club, the entire town experiences a renewed perspective on life.

What I found most engaging about this book was how, though it was clearly telling the story, there was much wisdom to be gleaned.  Jones discusses the fragility of life, love languages, and the continuing usefulness of our lives.  I found these life lessons extremely helpful, and very poignant for someone in any walk of life.  Personally, I’m not a fan of fiction and that made the story hard to follow along at points.  Also, after awhile, you see where the story is going and its easy to fill in the blanks.  However, its still a decent read for anyone seeking some life wisdom!

BOOK REVIEW: The Hole In Our Gospel

It’s hard for some of us to imagine the most destitute and vile corners of the globe.  The filth, the disease, the poverty, the violence.  Richard Stearns has seen these places, and God has used it to change his life.  Throughout “The Hole in Our Gospel”, Stearns shows how the gospel has become Americanized and has left out much of the social justice aspects that God had meant it to be.  Stearns takes you on his own journey of faith, and shows us how God broke his heart for those in despicable conditions.  We as a church are challenged to commit to, not only to reaching the world with the Gospel, but with open hands filled with love, clean water, education, and varying resources.

Overall, Stearns presents the material well.  The crux of the message comes across quickly and easily; Stearns probably would’ve done well to shorten the book by fifty pages.  However, this book is an easy read, and an inspiring one at that.  The money shot is the storytelling; Stearns weaves amazing pictures from his own life and journey.

I would highly recommend this book for pastors, pastoral students, and those seeking to aid those in missionary roles.  The unmistakable message with change you and challenge you in your ministry role!

Been a Long Time Since I've Been On Here

Yeah...I used to post a lot.  And I've been thinking a lot of restarting my blog.  Posting thoughts.  Ideas.  Random nothingness.

Hmmm....sounds good to me.  Hello Xanga....I'm here again.

Wanna Go See Phantom

Hey everyone.  As some of you may know, I'm something of a song writer.  After Madison Hotels died (peacefully, and it is well missed), I focused a lot of my writing on worship.

After a lot of cajoling for people for me to record these songs and sell them, I've decided to give them away for free.  While I enjoy money and all, I just want people to have something they can enjoy for free.  I mean, Jesus gives us Himself for free....si?

I know many of you are Christians, and some of you worship leaders, and good music can be hard to come by.  So, download, copy, sing, record (don't sell though), and whatever...

If you need song sheets, have questions, or anything, message me!

PS.  There mediocre demos, but they'll do!  If you do record them with your band or what not, I'd love to hear!
